Consultation and treatment is open to NP/PA providers only, as this requires a diagnostic component.
- Treatment is limited to acne vulgaris or acne mechanica dx only
- Ex: No treatment of rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, or acne conglobata
- Treatment is limited to patients who are 18 and over
- All consultations will be charted accurately and clearly, (Service Name is “Acne Consult”, under “Miscellaneous Service Group” category)
- Prescriptions for Portrait patients are to be sent in through Treat
- Notify/confer with your Clinical Director if
- Treatment is >4 months when using oral antibiotic therapy
- Any questions about clinical candidacy
Treatment is limited to Grade I-II acne, as defined by:
- Grade 1: Comedones, occasional papules on face only
- Grade 2: Papules, comedones, few pustules at face and body
Grade 3 / 4 acne shall be referred to local Dermatologist for consideration of Isotretinoin
- Grade 3: Predominant pustules, nodules, abscesses at face and body
- Grade 4: Mainly cysts, abscesses, widespread scarring at face and body
The following options are available/on formulary
- Tretinoin
- SIG: apply pea-sized amount to dry face every 3 nights x for 10 days, then every other night for 10 days, and nightly thereafter
- Clindamycin
- SIG: apply QD/BID thin film to affected area of face
- Aczone
- SIG: apply QD/BID thin film to affected area of face
- Sulfacetamide/sulfur cleanser
- SIG: wash once daily in the PM
- Azelaic acid 15%
- SIG: apply QD thin layer to affected area of face
- Superficial / medium depth peels
- As per Portrait protocols
